Window Dressing

There are so many different sizes, types and arrangements of windows, and so many different ways of treating them that it might be a good idea to make several sketches of the windows in a particular room, and then try out different treatments until you decide what looks best. Curtains frame the view, protect you from the outside world, help to insulate the room and to reduce noise.

When decorating in a particular style, proportion is all-important. If your rooms are too small, or the wrong shape for a particular style, don't try to squeeze that style in -choose a style which can be adapted for the space. Window treatments should be compatible with the size and shape of the window. It's no good trying to create stately home drapes, originally intended for tall windows, on a one-paned picture window built in the sixties. The proportions are all wrong and the result will be unsatisfying.
